Frequently Asked Questions
Is 30% off plus an extra 10% the same as 40% off?
No, and this is the most common shopping mistake. The extra 10% applies to the already-reduced price, so the real saving is 37%, not 40%. On a ₹3,000 item that is ₹90 less off than you might expect.
How do I calculate a discount by hand?
Multiply the price by the discount percentage and divide by 100 to get the saving, then subtract it. For 30% off ₹2,999: 2999 × 30 ÷ 100 = ₹899.70 saved, so you pay ₹2,099.30.
How do I find the discount percentage from the final price?
Subtract the final price from the original, divide by the original, and multiply by 100. Use the third tab above and it does this for you.
Are discounts applied before or after GST?
Retail prices in India are displayed inclusive of GST, so the discount you see is applied to the tax-inclusive price. On invoices where tax is shown separately, the discount is applied first and GST is charged on the reduced amount.
