Which format should I use?
JPG for photographs, PNG when you need transparency or crisp text and lines, and WebP when file size matters most — it is typically 25 to 35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality and is supported by every current browser.
Why did my transparent PNG get a white background?
Because JPG has no alpha channel and cannot store transparency. The tool fills transparent areas with the background colour you choose. Convert to PNG or WebP instead if you need to keep transparency.
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. Detail lost to JPEG compression is gone for good — converting to PNG just stores the already-degraded pixels losslessly, usually in a much larger file. Convert to PNG only when you need transparency or lossless editing from that point on.
What quality setting should I pick?
85 to 90% is the sweet spot for photographs: visually indistinguishable from the original for most people, at a fraction of the size. Below 70% compression artefacts start becoming visible around edges.
Is there a file size limit?
No fixed limit. Very large images are constrained only by your device memory, since the conversion happens on a canvas in your browser rather than on a server.
