Barcode Generator (Code 128)
Generate a scannable Code 128 barcode for any product code, asset tag or reference number, and download it as a sharp PNG or a scalable SVG.
Code 128 subset B: letters, digits and common punctuation
Code 128 is the standard for shipping labels, inventory tags and asset tracking. The checksum is calculated automatically, and a quiet zone is included on both sides — scanners need that blank margin to read the code. Download the SVG if you plan to print at a large size.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Code 128?
The most widely used linear barcode symbology for logistics and inventory. It encodes the full ASCII set in a compact form and includes a checksum, which is why shipping labels and warehouse systems favour it.
PNG or SVG?
SVG for anything you will print, because it stays sharp at any size. PNG when you need to paste the barcode into a document or spreadsheet that does not handle vectors.
Why is there blank space at the edges?
That is the quiet zone, and it is mandatory. Scanners use the blank margin to detect where the barcode begins and ends — crop it off and the code often stops scanning.
Can I make an EAN or UPC barcode?
Not with this tool. Retail EAN-13 and UPC codes must be purchased from GS1, because the number itself identifies your company and product. Code 128 is for your own internal codes.
Will these barcodes actually scan?
Yes. The checksum is computed to spec and the quiet zone is included. For reliable scanning, print at a bar width of at least 2px per module and avoid scaling the image down afterwards.
