JPG to PNG Converter

Convert a JPG to PNG when you need a lossless copy to edit further, or when a service specifically requires the PNG format.

Conversion happens on a canvas in your browser, so the image is never uploaded. Note that converting a JPG to PNG cannot restore detail already lost to JPEG compression — it only changes the container, and usually makes the file larger.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does converting to PNG improve the image?

No. Whatever detail JPEG compression removed is permanently gone — converting to PNG simply stores the already-compressed pixels losslessly. It prevents further loss from that point on, which is the real benefit.

Why is my PNG so much bigger than the JPG?

Because PNG is lossless. For photographic content it typically produces files five to ten times larger than JPG. That is expected, not a fault.

When is JPG to PNG actually worth it?

When you are about to edit the image repeatedly and want no further generation loss, when a platform requires PNG, or when you need to add transparency to the image afterwards.

Will the converted PNG have transparency?

No. The source JPG has no transparency to recover, so the PNG is fully opaque. You would need an image editor to remove a background.
